Late goal lifts Jones past East Central, 2-1

DECATUR – With time winding down in the second half and overtime looming at East Central on Friday, sophomore Heather Sullivan (Pearl) the ideal time to score her first collegiate goal, lifting a shot just over the keeper's head in the 84th minute to send Jones to a 2-1 win. 
The Bobcats improved to 7-5 with the victory, finally on the right side of a one-goal match – they had been 0-3. ECCC fell to 5-4-1.
Jones took the early 1-0 lead in the 7th minute when Esmeralda Figueroa (Northeast Jones)a streaking Madison LaFontaine (Pass Christian) in front of the box.
EC and Leah Anderson would knot it at 1-1 a minute later and the teams stayed tied for the ensuing 76 minutes.
Sullivan gave JC the lead in the 84th minute, using a pass from LaFontaine on the left wing outside the box and flicking it over the keeper's head for the game-winning goal.
EC outshot Jones 10-6 on the day, but two of Jones' three shots-on-goal found the back of the net.
Alexis Wilson (Long Beach) hadsix saves to pick up her sixth win of the year.
Jones will travel to Gulf Coast on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. kickoff in Perkinston. The match will be streamed at https://livestream.com/MGCCCBulldogs/events.
