Jones Bobcats advance to MACJC semifinals with wild win over Mississippi Delta

ELLISVILLE – It was a wild one here Tuesday night in the MACJC semifinals at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
The homestanding Jones College Bobcats scored the game's final six points over the final 42.1 seconds and defeated Mississippi Delta, 78-73.
The Bobcats, 19-5, will now face Northeast Mississippi in a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday semifinal game. Northeast eliminated Mississippi Gulf Coast 67-61 in a first-round contest. In other quarterfinal action, Pearl River beat Holmes 60-48 and East Mississippi downed East Central, 70-53. Pearl River faces East Mississippi in a 3 p.m. semifinal game on Wednesday.
In women's semifinal games on Wednesday, Itawamba plays Copiah-Lincoln at 1 p.m. and No. 13 Jones College meets Mississippi Gulf Coast at 5:30 p.m.
The championship games are set for Thursday.

Bobcats 78, Trojans 73
There were numerous outstanding individual performances.
Galen Alexander (Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) had 30 points, including a 5-of-10 3-point shooting effort, and nine rebounds for the Bobcats. Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) had 20 points, including a 6-of-8 performance from beyond the arc. Kenneth Rogers (Starkville) had 11 points. 
David McCoy (Meridian), a 6-foot guard, led Jones with 11 rebounds. McCoy and Michael Williams Jr.(Rayville, Louisiana) each had five assists.
Brandon Kimble had 30 points for the Trojans, including five 3-pointers. Khalil Strickland, a 5-foot-9 guard, had 11 rebounds and 12 assists. Darius Jackson finished with 13 points and Avion Graham had 11 points.
The game featured 13 lead changes and was tied nine times.
Jones took a 72-67 lead with 2:13 left when Alexander made a 3-pointer.
But Kimble responded with back-to-back 3-pointers and the Trojans took a 73-72 lead with less than a minute to play. 
Edwards was fouled on a drive to the goal and hit both free throws to give Jones the lead for good at 74-73 with 42.1 seconds left.
Kimble misfired on a 3-pointer, the Bobcats got the rebound and Williams was fouled with 17.7 seconds to play. He made both ends of the one-and-one to put Jones up 76-73.
Avion Graham then missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer. McCoy got the ball and was fouled with 9.2 seconds to play.
He made both shots to seal it for the Bobcats.
The Trojans led for most of the game.
Alexander's basket at 13:32 of the first half gave Jones a 15-13 lead. But a Graham basket at 8:34 capped a 10-0 run and put MDCC up 23-15. 
An Alexander 3-point play at 4:28 cut the lead to 28-24. But the Trojans would go on an 8-0 run and take its longest lead of the game at 36-24 with 1:14 left in the first half when Jonas Burley scored.
The Trojans led 38-27 at halftime.
A Kimble basket with 13:58 remaining had MDCC ahead, 47-39.
But Jones went on a 12-0 run and took a 51-47 lead with 11:53 remaining when Alexander scored off an offensive rebound. 
The Bobcats would take their longest lead of the game at 61-55 when Edwards hit a 3-pointer with 6:37 left. But Kimble's 3-pointer with 3:16 remaining put the Trojans ahead 67-66 to set put the exciting finish.
The Bobcats were 25-of-59 from the field (14-of-33 from 3-point range) for 42 percent. Jones was 14-of-19 from the free throw line. 
The Trojans were 27-of-60 from the floor (9-of-24 from 3-point range) for 45 percent. MDCC was 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
Jones outrebounded MDCC, 36-34. Each team had 18 assists and 17 turnovers.
Mississippi Delta ends the season at 10-14.
