Coahoma Tigers Outplayed in Matchup Against Northwest Rangers

SENATOBIA- Coahoma Community College had one of their toughest road trips of the season against Northwest Mississippi Community College, a team ranked second in the NJCAA, on Thursday Night. The Rangers' performance matched their ranking when they dominated the field by ending the game in a 54-18 victory at Rangers Stadium.

Northwest Mississippi (6-1, 3-1 MACJC North) scored on their first four possessions of the game. Jaquerrious Williams scored two touchdowns in the 1st half. The Rangers took a commanding 28-0 lead at the half.

After a perfect first half, the Rangers kicked off the second half with a miscue. Urriah Shephard fumbled on the carry, and Coahoma's Jordan Montgomery returned it for a 46-yard touchdown, which cut the lead to 28-6.

Northwest answered with a 22-yard touchdown by Williams. Then, Jack Walker connected with Drew Dabney for a 66-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 42-6.

Tahj Tolbert stepped up the offense for Coahoma. He threw two touchdowns to Josh Stevenson (64 yards) and Isaiah Bolton (6 yards).

Northwest Mississippi totaled 649 total yards, including 407 rushing yards and 242 passing yards. Williams led the Rangers with 15 carries for 250 yards and four touchdowns. Walker was 9 of 19 passes for 222 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Braden Smith secured three catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Coahoma calculated 247 total yards, including 218 passing yards and 29 rushing yards. Tolbert led the Tigers with 9 of 12 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Stevenson made six catches for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Coahoma goes to 1-6 (0-4 MACJC North) on the season. They will play their final home game of the 2019 season against East Mississippi Community College on Thursday, October 17, 2019. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the James E. Miller Stadium. The game will be recognized as Sophomore Night and will spotlight the graduating sophomores of the CCC Football team.
